Emily & Jonny's Wedding

Emily and Jonny's Wedding was a perfect day coupled with class and fun, a difficult combo to achieve!

Here is what Emily had to say about their day...

Where did you choose for your Wedding Venue and what made it so special?
Heart of England Event & Conference Centre, Coventry. We chose it because it had a separate reception area outside, marquee for the wedding breakfast plus a fabulous disco room with amazing lighting for the evening do.

Did you have a theme for your wedding?
No, my husband supports Everton so we had royal blue as the main colour with cream and gold detail. Other than some football cupcake themed cupcakes and a spare garter we didn't have anything footy themed!

Where did you draw your inspiration from?
I made a mood board with all the things I liked, some were nothing like the final choices but it was great fun making it anyway!! We went for simple, elegant and above all personal and just made every choice individually rather than matching cake/flowers/decor etc

Tell us about the process of choosing your dress?

I looked at dresses for an hour online and Maggie Sottero dresses immediately stood out to me because of their elegance and detail. My favourite was Aurelie and I was delighted to find that a local shop was listed as a stockist. I called and made an appointment the very next day.

Was it the first one you tried on or did you change your mind numerous times?
I'd warned them at the bridal shop that I had fallen in love with Aurelie, they said I should try it first as I wouldn't be able to give others a fair try until I had ruled it in/out. The minute I put it on I knew it was the one, I tried 2 other styles after just to keep my bridesmaids happy but I think we all knew my mind was made up. The girls said afterwards I stood like a confident happy bride in my dress and completely changed when I put the other two on!

Did you have an idea of what you wanted?
I knew I wanted an A line with dramatic back detail but didn't plan on one so big!!

Where did your groom get his suit from?
The suits were all from Bradgate Brides who stocked my gown.

Can you tell me about your flowers?
We struggled to find the right style and colour for our blue theme as I wanted centrepieces but all blue flowers seemed to be wild flowers or less dominating. When I saw huge blue hydrangea headsman a wedding magazine in simple bowls with crystals I knew that was just right. I had a bouquet with a hydrangea head too with ivory roses sewn in, the girls had single cala lily stems which worked beautifully with their royal blue dresses.

What are your wedding rings like?
Our rings were quite simple, mine is a white gold band, equal width to my engagement ring and Jonny's is a brushed platinum band with shiny edges.

Did you have any other special jewellery?
I was lucky enough to receive both of my nans engagement rings when they passed away, both were sewn onto my garter as my 'something old' and are still attached to it now in my wedding memory box. One day I hope Poppy will walk down the aisle wearing it as her something old too.

What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?
Wedding magazines were great and forums were good but I found them a little repetitive or a bit show-offy, sorry ladies!!!

Do you have any advice for future brides?
It's your day, no one else's so make sure you plan time for you and your new hubby to take everything in. The personal touches are the things people will talk about afterwards - we had a quiz about ourselves during the wedding breakfast which meant different family members and friends could talk about us as an ice breaker and I'd really recommend that.

What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?
I know the vicar made it clear that Ashley couldn't take pictures from the front but in hindsight this was a blessing as the pictures from the back of the church with my dress train and the stained glass windows were just stunning. My favourite pic is the one of my dad and I walking into church, it has received so many incredible comments and has made many a family member shed a tear!!

Was Ashley Paton the right photographer for you?

 Oh my gosh, 100%!

Thank you so much Emily for being such an amazing bride! I think we can all agree you looked absolutely stunning!
